Intestinal Failure care in France

Where is care provided? 

Care for intestinal failure is provided in specialised university hospitals. France has designated six national expert centers for IF and HPN.

 

Only these expert centers are authorized to provide HPN.

 

Psychological & Social Support

Support available for patients and parents includes:

  • Hospital psychologist

  • Social worker

Home Parenteral Nutrition (HPN)

  • Fully covered by the national health service

  • Supplies and equipment are reimbursed

  • Registered under the “long-term disease scheme”, covering 100% of medical expenses

Costs and reimbursement 

  • Treatment and HPN are fully covered by the national health service

  • No specific financial applications required

School and education

Support may include:

  • Hospital teacher

  • Online schooling

  • Special education rights
